White Hot considered shape molding during our early experimentation and testing days. We rejected the process when we discovered we could not control the fusion and density in a shape mold as well as when we molded a larger block.
We have found that most shapers do not care for the hard, soft, hard soft pattern that runs the length of a shape molded blank. We also found it was much easier to bend custom rockers into a “cut” blank and it produced less spring back than a shape molded unit.
The superior bead fusion in SS-EPS allows it to be laminated without the use of fillers and will not absorb water when dinged. The boards made with SS-EPS are light and lively.
White Hot Foam offers a variety of stringer sizes and custom placements including “wedges” and parabolics. We glue up our blanks with a urethane-based adhesive that does not get rock hard.
This makes the stringer lines easy to machine and finish and does not cause the “pebble tracks” on nearly finished shaped blanks as pieces of hard stringer adhesive can. We are known for our precision glue ups producing consistent rocker lines.
Due to the increasing popularity of the sport, White Hot Foam has created a line of surfboard blanks designed specifically for the SUP shaper. By working with SUP innovators, we have designed SUP blanks that are functional and versatile.
Along with our standard 2lb.foam, we offer 1.5lb and 1lb. foam for our SUP blanks. Because of the size and thickness of SUP boards, our lighter density foams are the perfect match for the SUP blanks. This option gives the shaper a bit of room to glass the board heavier to increase its strength, while still maintaining its light weight and manueverability.
Our SUP blanks are built with our standard ¼” bass wood stringer. All custom options are available. We also recommend foam T-band and wedge T-band stringer options for larger boards. Along with giving the board a “boutique” look, these options can give added strength to the middle fin box, and the board itself.
