A Breakthrough for the Surf Industry

Owning our EPS manufacturing plant, meant we could team up with veteran board builders to formulate a unique “surf specific” EPS foam that is second to none. Plus, we can rely on consistent raw materials as we create our board blanks.

For over 50 years, the vast majority of surfboards have been built using 3 pound polyurethane foam wrapped in a shell of fiberglass impregnated with polyester resins.

Then along came EPS -- expanded polystyrene -- as a lighter, stronger alternative.

But when EPS was first introduced, it was very difficult to shape and absorbed water badly when the board's fiberglass shell was pierced.

Working with Veteran Shapers

The White Hot Foam team worked with veteran board builders in the industry to create a “surf specific” EPS foam, manufactured in our own plants to our own specifications. The result is an EPS that not only resolved all the problems, but created the way forward for better, longer-lasting boards.

White Hot Foam is located minutes away from some of the finest surfing in Ventura County, California. Making blanks to make better boards is our passion.

Two-pound Foam Shapes Beautifully

White Hot Foam’s SS-EPS, currently produced in a true 2 lb. density with the ultimate in consistency, shapes beautifully.

The superior bead fusion in SS-EPS allows it to be laminated without the use of fillers and will not absorb water when dinged. The boards made with SS-EPS are light and lively.

Friendly to the Environment

Manufacturing EPS foam is also 80% cleaner environmentally than producing the old polyurethane foam.

The epoxy resins used to laminate the fiberglass to EPS blanks emit far fewer volatile organic compounds than the polyester resins used with polyurethane foam.

The result is a greener manufacturing process -- not just easier on the environment, but easier on the skilled artisans making boards.
